The Bathe time integration method in dynamic crush

A video appeared in the flow (https://lnkd.in/eZt-8c5) about crushing of a square box steel profile. I have seen animations and papers about such simulations before and thought that it would be fun to look at a such problem. I found that the ADINA Primer manual included a dynamic crush problem, solved with both implicit and explicit methods. I modified the implicit input file and ran the analysis :-) In this analysis the 3D-shell element is used, plastic-cyclic material model for mild steel, large displacements and strains, and Bathe time integration method. The profile is hit by a 100 kg rigid plate from above, with an initial velocity of 12 m/s. The kinematic energy is transferred into some elastic and mostly plastic energy during the crush. The animation shows the progression of plastic work.
